yes the date is august 11 but we’ll be in NYC probably from the previous thursday through the monday after. when we book a hotel and know where we’ll be anchored i’ll email you!

Kristi! I nodded along with your whole comment. Sorry to hear about your dad. Kindred souls, eh? I think this isolation thing is paying off finally. Life is too hard to be comparing myself to moms who don’t lose it or who didn’t grow up with parents who lost it all the time, or who lose it but don’t admit it. In other words, THANK YOU. for understanding, for connecting, for being honest. it’s luxe. xo!

oh. my. word. this is awesome documentation. sharing. being honest. i don’t really know what to say, because you know it’s socially unacceptable and all to be like hell yeah you worked this out i this way with your 8yo! but i secretly get it. i personally have baggage with the “eff you” thing, directed AT me. so i am not sure i would ever say it to my kids. but i say all kinds of other stuff, and feel conflicted, but sometimes we giggle about it. i just don’t want them cowering in the corner afterward, which in this case clearly he was not. i remember the first time i actually repeated back to my dad what he was spewing at me, and it was merely “pissed off.” he said “quit pissing me off” and i said “i’m not pissing you off” and he stopped in his tracks, poised as if to slap me (as he was keen to do when i was in my teens), and then we both smiled and thought it was funny. but that was a rare moment for me, and i figure if i can make this the rule rather than the exception in my house, i will be doing well. sounds like you are ahead of the game. xoxo
